 In Cofactor Genomics, Customer Spotlight

ST. LOUIS, MO. – October 31, 2011 – Cofactor Genomics, LLC, recently finished a collaboration with the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (KBRIN) to design experiments, generate and analyze next-generation sequencing data for six research institutions across the State of Kentucky (https://louisville.edu/research/kbrin/). Cofactor leveraged its unique D&A (Design & Analysis) process to improve the efficiencies and effectiveness of the sequencing experiments and provide more useful results.

The KBRIN is a collaborative network of biomedical researchers in state-supported and independent institutions of higher education in Kentucky and is funded through the NCRR INBRE (IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence) grant. “KBRIN and Cofactor recently completed several cutting-edge genomics projects to bring next-generation sequencing, design, and analysis to Kentucky’s researchers,” reported Dr. Nigel Cooper, KBRIN project director. “KBRIN-INBRE’s goal is to build leading collaborative biomedical research while developing a statewide bioinformatics structure,” he added.

The KBRIN-INBRE program seeks to expand biomedical research activities across the state by developing Kentucky’s next generation of biomedical researchers. The network funds student training and career development in the primarily undergraduate universities (PUI)’s. In addition to scientific workforce development, the INBRE award also builds critically important bioinformatics infrastructure to assist researchers in quantifying large volumes of data produced through genomic techniques. Currently, the institutions in the network that benefit from the collaboration include Morehead State University, Northern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, Eastern Kentucky University, the University of Louisville, and the University of Kentucky.

“Cofactor’s contribution to the KBRIN-INBRE initiative is a perfect example of the value our clients find in working with our company, ” commented Dr. Jarret Glasscock, CEO of Cofactor Genomics. Our expertise lies in our ability to design a sequencing experiment correctly and then analyze the data in a reductionist manner… this directly benefits researchers in diverse fields by providing direct and actionable results as opposed to just data,” he added.
